ProspectiveMemberInfoWhat is Alpha Lambda Delta?Alpha Lambda Delta is a National Honors Society open to students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in their first quarter at a four-year university. What does Alpha Lambda Delta do?Alpha Lambda Delta at UC Riverside is a busy organization filled with many activities for first-year students to get involved in. We have bi-monthly meetings, community service events, social activities, and presentations from various offices around the UC Riverside campus. This year, we have so far had a presentation on the Co-Curricular Transcript given by our Student Life and Leadership Office, a demonstration on Stress Management given by the Counseling Center, an information session on Academic Research given by one of our senior members, an insightful look into Time Management given by the Honors Program, and are currently in the works to organize a panel discussion on Peer Tolerance hosted by our LGBT Center on campus. One of the most exciting parts of Alpha Lambda Delta at UCR is our tutoring program. Whenever a parent from the Riverside School District calls UCR requesting a tutor for their son or daughter, the school operator automatically directs the phone call to Alpha Lambda Delta’s elite Tutoring Program. Alpha Lambda Delta members are given exclusive opportunities to tutor these students, who range in age from Kindergarten through 12th grade, and can earn between $10-20 per hour for their work. No transportation is necessary; several students choose to tutor students on the UCR campus. Tutoring is a fun and rewarding experience, and can also be a great way to earn some extra cash during college without having the stress and time commitment of a formal job. You can learn more about the tutorial program here Why should I join Alpha Lambda Delta? Our organization is a great way for first-year students to make friends among peers who share similar academic goals and interests, while also making a difference within the community through fun community service activities. Alpha Lambda Delta is a nationally prestigious Honors Society, and membership and activities done under our organization can and will be recognized on job applications, graduate school admissions essays, and résumés. Membership in Alpha Lambda Delta also provides access to the University’s premier tutoring program, and involvement with this program is another great addition to your Co-Curricular Transcript, graduate school application, and résumé. How do I join Alpha Lambda Delta?Prospective members are selected to join Alpha Lambda Delta. Please complete the application attached to the letter you were sent and submit your dues to our box in the Student Life Office.
